A few months back Roddy said that he lives in New York now. He could have been joking though, I dunno.

thought they were just staying in a hotel there?
Maybe he's so worried about US politics he's trying to become a US national by the next election so he can vote for Hilary...

A friend was talking to him and asked how long he was staying (in new york) and he said "I live here now". It's a great city and he really likes it, so he may as well live there as anywhere else.

We're supposed to be Idlewild fans and we aren't even sure about where the lead singer lives. I'm really beginning to get pissed off now. Trying to believe that it's their management that have screwed us over rather than the band. They just don't care anymore.

i'm amazed and embarrassed i know as much as i do really. its freakish to know so much about a person you've never met

I can see their point that it's nobody's business where they live etc. Roddy's sister had fans calling her up at work and all sorts, so it's only natural that they are protective of their privacy.
But at the same time, it's also natural that fans want to know about people that they admire and not being sure what continent that person lives on is taking that privacy to the extreme a bit.

I want to get all indignant about the alleged move to America, but I can't...
I'd fuck off out of this country too given half the chance...

Ironically, I'm trying to fuck off out of this country over to yours. Then again, y'all have the Post Grad School I want to go to.

Whats a post grad school? Uni you mean?
Sessafish

11th November 04, 16:48
Ah right.... where do you want to go?
Sessafish

Cardiff University. They have a good English programme, and they accept US Student Loan funding.

Cardiff has a very good university... and it just so happens to be the place I've been trying to fuck off out of... funny old world innit?

I'll trade ya. You could live in Kentucky, and I'll live in Cardiff. *grin*
Actually, the Universities over there are better than many of the ones over here. And it's a good reason to get out of the US, at least for awhile. I've been stuck in this place for all my life, and I want to experience things from a very different geographic and cultural point of view for awhile.

Dude...I live in Kentucky. I need to take baby steps into multicultural awareness.

Yeah...Thoroughbreds and Colonel Sander...and whisky. Let's not forget whisky. If it weren't for the people, this place would be a paradise. *G*

And don't forget the caves. And the big slide that you reach by chairlift.
I had fun in Kentucky, but it was just a visit.
I guess it's different if you live there.

Kentucky is my home. I love it and I hate it. I love the bluegrass (the stuff that grows, not the musical style so much), the caves are indeed quite cool, the whisky, the horses, the hills, and the people.
I also hate the people-the bible belt, the bigotry, the poverty, the lack of education, the ass-backwardness.
When were you in Kentucky?

When were you in Kentucky?
About two years ago, but we only spent 3 or 4 days in Kentucky.
I liked it though and I met some nice people.
I know what you mean – I feel a similar a similar love/hate thing with Dublin.

what do you love and hate about dublin?
Ruby
21st November 04, 18:45
I love the river and the architecture, even the shitty old bits have a grimy appeal. The culture and the use of language. The music scene is pretty good too. And the easy access to the sea.
I hate the transport system and the increasing random violence. The tourists in summer are a pain and they talk to you as though you're an idiot.
The love is probably stronger than the hate though.

I actually probably love Kentucky more than I hate it, but my problem is, I haven't travelled and seen enough other places to appreciate it-or find something better. I have more or less been stuck in this state all my life, saving one year in eastern North Carolina...which upon thinking of, does make me appreciate Kentucky more. Right now the prices for flights out of here are very good...now if I can find hotels with reasonable prices, I'd be set.

Music scene-must be nice. *G* That's on my hate list for Kentucky. Right now I have a Joycean vision of Dublin in my head...because I just finished Portrait of the Artist last night for my class.
Ruby
23rd November 04, 09:15
Portrait of the Artist is quite apt then - feeling trapped somewhere and wanting to escape.
Have you read Ulysses? It can be a bit of a long slog, but worth persevering with.
Sessafish
23rd November 04, 18:23
Nope. That may well be a selection for next semester when I do my independent study, but I'd prefer Dubliners or Finnegan's Wake truthfully.
Ruby
23rd November 04, 18:39
Haven't read Finnegan's Wake, but Dubliners is pretty good.
Sessafish
23rd November 04, 18:41
Yeah, and the advantage of Dubliners is that I'm halfway through it already. *G* Although, I'd have to do a reread. But it's on my shelf, which means I wouldn't have to pay extra money for another book.

From Colin & Roddy in New York to the works of James Joyce, via Cardiff and Kentucky and all in 3 pages. The joys of interweb conversations!
Sessafish
23rd November 04, 21:30
*G* Yeah. Of course, my real life conversations tend to stray that way too. And if you want to see funny conversations, check out my lj entry on Nov. 3rd...talk about straying.
