ive only seen two films at the cinema this year - spider-man 2 and the day after tomorrow. spider-man 2 was superior.

'Coffee and cigarettes' and 'Harry Potter' were the ones I enjoyed most.
'Wimbledon' made me want to saw the top of my head off and throw the contents at the screen.

Hmm...I think Troy, and Harry Potter. I can't think of the other ones I saw that I really liked this year.

When was Monster out? That was really good. As was starsky and hutch i thought. Obvious reasons I thought the day after tomorrow was FOOKING ace. And I just saw Ichi the Killer recently. Dunno when that was out but it was good (although almost made me vomitmorethanonce.oh.myspacebarisntworking.hmm.)

Shaun of the Dead, Fahrenheit 9/11, Super Size Me and Starsky and Hutch all rocked my pants this year.
I also found the time to watch some dodgy Korean films, including Phone and The Isle. Koreans are a little odd.
The only film I walked out of this year was The Grudge.

The Grudge - laughed my little socks off the whole way through

I Heart Huckabees, The Motorcycle Diaries, Big Fish, the remake of Alfie, and even though it didn't come out this year I've only just seen it, so La Haine.
I'm sure that The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and A Very Long Engagement (I'm on a Mathieu Kassovitz kick) will also be added to this list, but I have to wait until Christmas to see both of those.

Were you scared?
I'm not sure scared is really the right word. "Bored shitless" would be a more apt description.

The Grudge was more funny than scary. Although sitting in the bath in the dark that night was a little nervy..

Is 'I Heart Huckabees' any good?
Haven't seen it yet.

Ruby, it's not overly serious nor overly superficial, and it's nearly impossible to go wrong with a cast like that.... really I was very impressed with it. I haven't come across anyone yet that's taken serious offense to Huckabees either, so odds are that you'll like it.

It was very well done, the editing and framing of the shots somehow highlights the complexity of not only hatred, but Vinz, Hubert, and Saïd's reactions to it. I guess someone high up in the UF circuit appreciates it as well, since my friend Ramy and I got to rent it for free from one of the campus libraries.
This year I was trying to catch up on Kassovitz films, next year it'll probably be Fassbinder.

15th December 04, 20:43
i like fassbinder too. well ive seen "in a year of 13 moons" anyhow. very very bleak and very very good. i especially recommend it to vegetarians

Spass fucks. Such a lovely descriptive phrase. I wish to talk about spass fucks more often in conversation.

The Idiots is good, but my favourite porn-disguised-as-art film is Baise-Moi. The bit where she shoots a guy up the arse? Pure quality.

So I take it no-one wound up seeing Bubba Ho-Tep? An elderly Elvis fighting a mummy? Good surprisingly touching fun. But best film I wound up seeing overall this year was L'Appartement, even though it was made in 1996.
Worst film of 2004 = The Forgotten.
